Hatha Yoga and BodyMind Therapy
COURSE DETAILS
Ayurveda Yoga's Healing Alchemy Leadership Program is a 6 month course designed to take you deeper into the world of yoga and healing arts. Taking classic texts and principles we study the meaning of yoga, the way to practice yoga, and the way to take these classic concepts and apply them to our modern lives.
With sincere practice and support from the teachers, students in this course get the courage and leadership ability to get what they want out of life. Such as finding their happiness and direction, improving relationships and work life, finding healing from trauma and making a strong yoga practice.
Sharing what you are looking for in the course is a great way to set your internal compass and the teachers will put special emphasis on what people are interested in gaining through the course, which will shape the overall class direction. As a semester progresses individual goals and directions can grow and change, so please keep an open dialogue with the teacher to ensure you get the most out of the course.
One focus of this course is Hatha Yoga. Hatha yoga starts from the body and is the foundation needed to continue to walk the various paths of yoga. Our main foundational text is the Yoga Sutra by Patanjali. In the book, Patanjali expounds the path of Raja Yoga through eight limbs (Ashtanga Yoga). The first 4 limbs are included in Hatha Yoga. They include: Yama (restraints), Niyama (observances), Asana (posture) and Pranayama (breath work). We study and practice the meaning of these principles and how to practically and safely practice them. When we meet on Saturdays, we explore mainly through lecture and discussion. The course is composed of theory and practice.
If there are any posture, breathing and/or meditation techniques that you have questions about, this is the best place to get deeper understanding through studying with the teachers.
Another focus of this course is Bodymind Therapy.
Bodymind Therapy explores the connection between body and mind. Society has divided the body and mind, but the body and mind are originally one. This means, not body and mind, but BodyMind. In yoga there are 5 layers (Pancha Kosha) to the body(mind). We study about how each layer connects, overlaps and is ultimately one. We can gain better understanding of our existence(our whole body/mind/soul). Therapeutically, this understanding allows us to approach ourselves more holistically to heal disease or illness. Through approaching the layers individually, for example the physical body or the energy body, we can use specific techniques that work on that layer to promote healing. Through the integral approach of Bodymind Therapy, we can heal as individuals.
We use therapies including, but not limited to Zen Counseling, Laughing/Crying/Dancing Meditation, Family Constellation, Social Meditations and, of course, asana and breathing are also used therapeutically. We incorporate any form of therapy that leads to transformation.
Participating and sharing a lot is the best way to get the most out of this course. This course is made by the members of each semester.
